Legendary Indianapolis Colts proprietor Jim Irsay died Wednesday at age 65, the team announced in a statement.
In line with Pete Ward, Irsay’s longtime right-hand man and Colts chief working officer, Irsay passed away peacefully in his sleep.
“Jim’s dedication and keenness for the Indianapolis Colts along with his generosity, dedication to the group, and most significantly, his love for his household had been unsurpassed,” Ward stated. “Our deepest sympathies go to his daughters, Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt, Kalen Jackson, and his complete household as we grieve with them.”
Shortly after the Colts’ announcement, New England Patriots proprietor Robert Kraft issued a press release on his longtime peer’s passing.
“I’m deeply saddened to be taught of the passing of Jim Irsay,” he stated. “Jim was a passionate Colts fan whose love for the sport of soccer was solely matched by his love for music. He introduced a singular spirit and power into the room and had an unmistakable presence.
“Jim’s boldness outlined his legacy, not simply because the steward of the Colts, however as somebody who by no means shied away from being unapologetically himself. His contributions to our league and his compassion for his group will depart a long-lasting mark. On behalf of my household and the complete New England Patriots group, I lengthen our deepest condolences to the Irsay household, the Colts group, and all who knew and beloved him.”
Irsay grew to become the Colts’ proprietor — and the youngest NFL proprietor at age 37 — after his father Robert handed away in 1997. Indianapolis made 18 postseason appearances with 10 division titles, and a Tremendous Bowl XLI victory beneath his management.
