DeMario “Pop” Douglas has been among the stars of New England Patriots training camp by the crew’s first 5 practices.
Simply how good has the Patriots’ slot vast receiver been? Our Tom E. Curran even went so far as to say he has barely outperformed star wideout Stefon Diggs thus far.
“DeMario Douglas has been — I would not say by far, however he is been the most efficient of the vast receivers when Drake Maye is concentrating on guys,” Curran mentioned on the newest episode of the Patriots Speak Podcast.

“Diggs has been essentially the most focused wideout by Drake Maye, and thru Saturday’s follow he had caught six of 10 aggressive targets from Drake Maye. Pop Douglas, I imagine, was both seven or eight of 9 within the aggressive targets that he has seen,” Perry mentioned.
“This will get again to, what are expectations for Diggs? What’s going to the hierarchy be inside that room? Thus far, by 5 practices, I might say that Pop Douglas has been their finest vast receiver. Does not imply that Diggs will not be good, cannot be good and will not be their finest man by the point the season rolls round.
“However I simply am a believer in Douglas’ means to get open, and I feel with a 12 months between them beneath their belts collectively — Maye and Douglas — you are gonna see a chemistry that enables that to be a extra productive tandem. Add Josh McDaniels to that blend, we all know what he is performed with slot receivers prior to now.
“I feel Douglas might find yourself having a extremely productive 12 months, to the purpose the place he is not simply the most efficient man with 650 yards receiving in a foul receiving room. I feel there’s an opportunity by the top of the 12 months we’re him and saying, ‘This is likely one of the finest 10 slot receivers within the league.'”
Douglas had 66 catches on 87 targets for 621 yards and three touchdowns final 12 months. Curran believes the third-year wideout ought to get extra touches going ahead.
“He ought to see the ball about 110 instances in any offense together with his set of abilities,” Curran added.
